President
Bush, Please Close Our Borders
And Keep Our
Enemies Out of the Camp
Mr. President, I am writing you about a matter of utmost importance with the belief that my concerns are shared by most Republicans and other Americans. I do so with immense respect for your character which brought in a fresh wind that has cleansed a despoiled and stained Whitehouse. And I am grateful to God for the fact that a man with your courage and willingness to defend America was President when we were attacked on 9-11-2001. It is daunting to think what state America would be in right now had you lost in 2000.
Though I have been disappointed in some of your decisions that furthered the intrusion of big government in our lives, I still have consistently defended you based on two truths. First, regardless of how many specific decisions on which any one of us may disagree with you, you are light years ahead of any alternative who was likely to be nominated by the Democrats.
Second, in each arena of our community life, you stand firm on the most vital issue to the welfare of America. in national security, you have defended us; in economics, you have decreased the tax burdens; in our legal system, you have appointed justices who will not usurp the will of the people by legislating from the bench their own biases and opinions about what “ought” to be the law; and in the cultural battle, you have stood strong in saying that none of our lives and freedom are secure without securing the life and freedom of the most weak and vulnerable among us.
Because of the
gratitude of so many for your doing these things, I believe it is within your
reach to insure throughout the first half of this new century EITHER the
continued revival of the founding values of this nation OR the resurgence of a
liberalism that will make our national economically weak and our national
security vulnerable.
I am alarmed because your earned respect has the ability to influence our future in either of these directions. Why? For the same reason that it strikes fear in soldiers to hear that the enemy has made it inside the camp. Any military man knows, and most Americans intuitively understand, that when the enemy is flooding into the command camp, the progress at the front line of a battle should not be a commander’s foremost concern.
I fear this is exactly what you are doing concerning our porous borders. We are vulnerable to another attack. As a matter of fact, because thousands of enemies of this nation are pouring across our border under the cover of the million plus illegals who flood across our borders each year, another attack is certainly inevitable. And the next attack, or multiple coordinated attacks, could make 9-11 look like child’s play.
I believe you are well intentioned in your compassion for the poor of Latin America. But surely you must see—for the welfare of all of us and our children, YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE—that leaving our borders unprotected and encouraging lawlessness is not the solution to the poverty of Latin America. That solution is to influence Latin American nations to duplicate our freedom based political and economic systems that generate the opportunities and prosperity that prevail here.
Sir, your amnesty plan suggests that you do not see the danger to which this nation is exposed, but instead are encouraging it. Yes, I know you say it is not an amnesty plan, but Americans know that any plan does not include shutting down illegal immigration and deporting illegal aliens out of this nation IS an amnesty plan which only encourages disdain for the law and an increased flood of illegal immigration—which did occur at the mere announcement of your plan—because even uneducated and unskilled Latin Americans know an amnesty plan by any other name is still an amnesty plan.
Why would your failure to address our border security and your amnesty plan kill the contemporary conservative resurgence in American values and revitalize liberal ideals so antithetical to the greatness of this nation?
Exactly because Americans do see that in any battle, the first perimeter that must be protected is the innermost perimeter of the camp itself. I hear this from an endless stream of concerned callers on my talk show.
And I have been taking an informal poll from only conservatives who despise the national leadership of the Democrat (or Despotcrat) Party as enemies of America’s founding principals. I have personally polled nearly one hundred such persons. Mr. President, all of them, every last one of them, without exception has told me—and with a good deal of conviction and intensity--that if a Democrat could convince them that the Democrat might actually shut down the borders and export illegals, they would vote for the Democrat over any Republican candidate who did not support such a plan.
As you know, the danger here is that MOST Americans pay little attention to campaigns until the last two months of an election. And they do not research the philosophy of candidates as evidenced by their history of words and deeds. Thus, John Kerry, who arguably has done more harm to the national security of this nation and to enable the slaughter of millions of other people’s than any other member of congress in American history, was able to run a tongue-in-cheek campaign (tolerated by his radical left supporters as a necessary gambit to win the election) as a man who would do a better job than you of defending America.
If you continue your amnesty campaign--no matter what you call it, and if Hillary begins to campaign for closing down illegal immigration in a convincing way, I am convinced that HILLARY WILL WIN . . . in a landslide! Or if a strong 3rd party candidate campaigns solely on the promise of stopping illegal immigration, they could--as described this week in a column by Rush Limbaugh --draw off so many frustrated voters from the Republican candidate that it would also insure a Democratic victory. Either way, it would be the Democratic left--whose ideology is so antithetical to the future greatness, prosperity, and security of this nation--who would dominate American politics for the next generation.
Please, Mr. President, for the good of America and the world, keep the perimeter of our camp safe. Please quit encouraging our stealth enemies to sneak past our inner perimeter. Please change your border policy while there is time. Millions of us, the majority of Americans of every race and ethnicity, beg you to do this before it is too late. And may God’s blessings be with you.
