1. The U.S. military and our willingness to
use it in self defense were undermined by the left blaming all the
military for actions of a very few criminal individuals such as Lieutenant
William Calley. And individuals including John F. Kerry lied to our
nation and to congress that such atrocities were commonplace, yet were
unable to name one such incident they had seen occur. Yet this is
EXACTLY what the left is again doing with the Abu Ghraib incidents.
2. Our security agencies were decimated
by budget cuts and irrational restrictions made by congress (Senator Frank
Church's committee and Senator Toricelli). Yet, this is exactly what
the 9/11 commission is doing rather than investigating the damage done to
our security agencies by congress itself.
3. We failed after Vietnam to point out
the difference between a nation whose military has criminals in it who are
prosecuted for their criminal actions and a nation that endorses criminal
actions as its modus operandi, and we failed to adequately point out the
cost of this moral confusion in millions of lives lost and repeated
attacks on the U.S.
4. And as a consequence of this moral
confusion, again and again we were attacked and American lives were lost
without any response--until 9-11. If we now, because of moral
confusion, back off our response to those who have declared war on
us, more of our soldiers will lose their lives and we will suffer future
losses that will make 9-11 seem trivial.
